Welcome to a space where art intersects with philosophy, psychology, spirituality, and the sheer joy of creation. I am a visual artist whose journey into the world of abstract painting began with a rediscovered gift and a passion reignited after years of serving as a pastor in a conservative evangelical church. Today, my art is a celebration of flow states, a meditation in motion, and an expression of the Zen concept of the "Golden Lotus World" – where everything is as it should be, perfect in its imperfection.
From a young age, I was drawn to drawing and painting, a passion that lay dormant as life took me on a different path. Years later, a simple painting kit, a gift won at a Christmas exchange, rekindled this passion. The first canvas I painted after this hiatus now hangs in my office, a constant reminder of the joy and fulfillment art brings to my life.
My art is a practice in mindfulness, a means to serve and share beauty with the world. Influenced by the likes of Gerhard Richter, Mark Bradford, and the sublime music of Radiohead, my studio becomes a sanctuary where philosophy, psychology, and spirituality converge. Figures like Joseph Campbell, Friedrich Nietzsche, and Daisetz Suzuki guide my thoughts, while Julia Cameron's "The Artist's Way" illuminates my path.
My work is a dance of order and chaos, represented by clean, straight lines juxtaposed against their inherent flaws and imperfections. This contrast, perhaps, reflects the paradoxical nature of truth, which I have always perceived as neither black nor white, but a complex intertwine of both. My canvases, primarily large hardwood boards, come alive with acrylic heavy body paint, spray paint, and sometimes oil paints, applied with tape and large palette knives more often than brushes.
The "Golden Lotus World," a concept that everything, in its multifaceted existence, contributes to a beautiful chorus, is a recurring theme in my work. Through a blend of colors and textures, I aim to touch the souls of my audience, allowing them to see beauty in the aggregate of diverse voices and ideas.
As an artist, my aspiration is simple: to paint every day. The act of creation, the mark on the panel, is my focus. Anything else is non of my business. The future of my art style, I anticipate, will embrace more chaos and less control, a journey I am eager to explore.
This website is more than a gallery; it's an invitation to question, to ponder the beyond, to embrace authenticity and imperfection. As you explore, I hope you encounter ideas that challenge and inspire, leading to a deeper appreciation of the world in all its complex beauty.
My life as an idealist has led me to a fascinating exploration of the realm beyond dualities. In this Golden Lotus world, beyond right and wrong, good and bad, lies the perfect essence of what is. This ethos, this pursuit of understanding and expressing the world as it truly is, permeates my art and writing.
Welcome to my world, a canvas where every stroke is a conversation, every color a philosophy, and every piece an invitation to see the world anew.
Playing a Christmas gift game I win a starter painting kit with a small canvas and some oil paints.
I wait two years to try out the painting kit. I purchase an 18" x 24" canvas and paint my first painting. I was hooked.
I move to Atlanta and set up a dedicated space for painting above the garage.
After moving to a new home I stop painting for 11 months. Then I transition the garage into a studio and begin painting daily.
When I am not in the studio, I'm on a walk, reading a book, writing, or on the road somewhere in the world.
