In September of this year (2023), I received a text from a family friend. He wanted to give his wife one of my paintings for her birthday, which is in November. I'd lived in our new home for 11 months and had not made one mark on a canvas or board since we moved in. This text was just the spark I needed to get the garage functioning as a studio. So, I agreed to do the work and ordered the boards from Zach at Diamondback Art Surfaces. I also ordered new spray paint and heavy-body acrylic from Blick. Within 10 days, I was back in the studio making marks on wood.

Then, I painted a base coat for each board. You can see in the image below I started with yellow. I had no idea where the painting would end up, no agenda. The adventure of working on this piece had begun.

First day in the new studio.

Over the next two months, I traveled to Kansas City, Los Angeles, San Fransisco, and New York City. However, every day I was home, I painted. As I write this, I have painted 35 days in a row. That doesn't sound like a lot, but since I stopped painting for 11 months, that number is significant to me.

This painting took around 17 hours to complete and includes over 100 lines and marks. It gave me great pleasure to complete it. It now hangs in Chicago in the home of two wonderful human beings.
